Hytale Workbench Guide: Every Bench, Recipe and Upgrade

Benches are where most crafting happens in Hytale. This guide lists every bench you can build in Exploration Mode as of Update 6 (August 27, 2026): what it is made from, what it crafts, and what each upgrade tier costs. Everything comes from the Hytale Wiki and the official patch notes, listed under Sources at the end.

How Benches Work

• Where you make them: the Campfire, the Workbench and the Builder's Workbench can be made with Pocket Crafting in your inventory. Every other bench is made at a Workbench.
• Chests count: a bench can use ingredients from up to 100 chests within 14 blocks horizontally and 6 blocks vertically. Update 1 raised that range from 7 and 4 blocks. Items in your inventory are used first.
• Upgrades: upgrading a bench uses up the materials, and each tier costs more than the last.
• Breaking an upgraded bench: it drops back to tier 1, but you get back every material you spent on its upgrades.

• Campfire: 4 sticks, 2 rubble. Pocket Crafting. One tier.
• Workbench: 4 tree trunks, 3 stone. Pocket Crafting. Three tiers.
• Builder's Workbench: 6 tree trunks, 3 stone. Pocket Crafting or Workbench. No upgrades.
• Furnace: 6 tree trunks, 6 stone. Tier 1 Workbench. Two tiers.
• Tanning Rack: 6 tree trunks, 3 stone, 3 Light Hide. Tier 1 Workbench. Two tiers.
• Farmer's Workbench: 6 tree trunks, 20 plant fiber. Tier 1 Workbench. Eight tiers.
• Blacksmith's Anvil: 2 Copper Ingots, 10 tree trunks, 5 stone. Tier 1 Workbench. Three tiers.
• Armorer's Workbench: 2 Copper Ingots, 10 tree trunks, 5 stone. Tier 1 Workbench. Three tiers.
• Chef's Stove: 2 Copper Ingots, 10 tree trunks, 5 stone. Tier 1 Workbench. One tier.
• Furniture Workbench: 6 tree trunks, 4 stone. Tier 2 Workbench. No upgrades.
• Salvager's Workbench: 6 Iron Ingots, 5 tree trunks, 5 stone. Tier 2 Workbench. No upgrades.
• Alchemist's Workbench: 20 stone, 5 Gold Ingots, 10 Venom Sacs, 10 Bone Fragments. Tier 2 Workbench. Five tiers.
• Arcanist's Workbench: 10 Thorium Ingots, 30 Linen Scraps, 20 Essence of the Void. Tier 2 Workbench. One tier.
• The Heart of Orbis: cannot be crafted. It stands in the Forgotten Temple and records your Memories.

Workbench

The Workbench is the main crafting bench. Its recipes sit in four tabs: Survival, Tools, Crafting and Tinkering.

• Tier 2: 30 Copper Ingots, 20 Iron Ingots, 20 Linen Scraps. Unlocks Cobalt and Thorium tools, more benches and backpack upgrades.
• Tier 3: 30 Thorium Ingots, 20 Cobalt Ingots, 30 Heavy Leather, 50 Shadoweave Scraps, 25 Essence of Fire. Unlocks Adamantite tools.

Four benches need a Tier 2 Workbench: the Furniture, Salvager's, Alchemist's and Arcanist's Workbenches. That makes Tier 2 the first big upgrade to aim for. Furnace

The Furnace smelts ore into ingots. Put fuel in its fuel slot and press the button under it to start; no fuel is used until you do.

• Tier 2: 5 Copper Ingots, 5 Iron Ingots, 5 Thorium Ingots, 5 Cobalt Ingots. Smelting takes 30% less time, and the input slots go from 2 to 3.

Tanning Rack

The Tanning Rack turns Light, Medium and Heavy Hide into the matching leather.

• Tier 2: 5 Light Leather, 5 Medium Leather, 5 Heavy Leather, 5 Sturdy Chitin. Light Leather then takes 12 seconds instead of 20, Medium 18 instead of 30, and Heavy 24 instead of 40.

Blacksmith's Anvil

The Blacksmith's Anvil makes weapons: swords, maces, battleaxes, daggers and bows. Each tier unlocks a new metal.

• Tier 2: 20 Iron Ingots, 30 Light Leather, 30 Linen Scraps, 15 Venom Sacs. Unlocks Cobalt and Thorium weapons.
• Tier 3: 25 Thorium Ingots, 25 Cobalt Ingots, 20 Essence of Fire, 40 Essence of Ice, 100 Essence of the Void. Unlocks Adamantite weapons.

Armorer's Workbench

The Armorer's Workbench makes armor for the head, chest, hands and legs, plus shields. Each tier unlocks a new metal.

• Tier 2: 20 Copper Ingots, 20 Bone Fragments, 20 Medium Leather, 100 Azure Logs. Unlocks Thorium and Cobalt armor.
• Tier 3: 25 Thorium Ingots, 25 Cobalt Ingots, 40 Shadoweave Scraps, 40 Sturdy Chitin, 3 Voidhearts. Unlocks Adamantite armor. The Voidheart Guide shows where to get them.

Farmer's Workbench

The Farmer's Workbench makes seed bags, farming tools, saplings and Essence of Life. It has eight tiers, and each upgrade asks for the crops the previous tier unlocked:

• Tier 2: 50 Essence of Life, 5 Wheat, 5 Lettuce, 5 Softwood Logs
• Tier 3: 1 Greater Essence of Life, 10 Carrots, 10 Corn, 10 Lightwood Logs
• Tier 4: 2 Greater Essence of Life, 20 Cauliflower, 20 Turnips, 20 Hardwood Logs
• Tier 5: 3 Greater Essence of Life, 30 Aubergines, 30 Pumpkins, 30 Redwood Logs
• Tier 6: 4 Greater Essence of Life, 40 Tomatoes, 40 Chillies, 40 Darkwood Logs
• Tier 7: 5 Greater Essence of Life, 50 Cotton, 50 Rice, 50 Drywood Logs
• Tier 8: 6 Greater Essence of Life, 60 Potatoes, 60 Onions, 60 Goldenwood Logs

Update 4 removed tiers 9 and 10. The Farming Guide lists which crops each tier unlocks.

Alchemist's Workbench

The Alchemist's Workbench makes potions, bombs and special seeds. Its Misc Potions recipes stay hidden until you have restored 50 memories at the Forgotten Temple.

• Tier 2: 5 Silver Ingots, 10 Gold Ingots, 10 Venom Sacs, 1 Emerald. Unlocks stronger potions, such as the Small Health Potion, and the first tier of seeds.
• Tier 3: 10 Silver Ingots, 20 Gold Ingots, 20 Sturdy Chitin, 1 Zephyr. Unlocks stronger potions, such as the Health Potion.
• Tier 4: 20 Silver Ingots, 40 Gold Ingots, 30 Shadoweave Scraps, 1 Sapphire. Unlocks stronger potions, such as the Greater Health Potion, and the second tier of seeds.
• Tier 5: 40 Silver Ingots, 80 Gold Ingots, 120 Cindercloth Scraps, 1 Ruby. Unlocks the last tier of seeds.

The gems come from the Crystal Golems that guard the temple gateways: Emerald from the Earthen Golem, Zephyr from the Sandswept Golem, Sapphire from the Frost Golem and Ruby from the Ember Golem. See the Bosses List.

The Other Benches

• Chef's Stove: prepared and baked dishes. It also appears in Outlander villages in the Whisperfrost Frontiers. One tier.
• Builder's Workbench: variations of blocks for building. Update 4 made its crafting instant and let every full rock, wood and metal block be turned into half slabs and stairs. No upgrades.
• Furniture Workbench: furniture, storage, beds, lighting and decorations. It has no upgrades; Memories milestones unlock more of its recipes.
• Salvager's Workbench: breaks cobble into rubble and refunds materials from tools, weapons and armor. Metal comes back as ore and leather as hide, so a Copper Pickaxe returns 1 Copper Ore and 2 sticks. No upgrades.
• Arcanist's Workbench: Teleporters, the Ancient Gateway and portal fragments. The Ancient Gateway and fragments unlock at 100 memories; see Portals & Fragment Keys. One tier.

Which Bench to Build First

The recipes set the order:

• Start: make a Workbench with Pocket Crafting. A Tier 1 Workbench then makes the Furnace, Tanning Rack and Farmer's Workbench, none of which need metal.
• Copper: smelt copper in the Furnace. 2 Copper Ingots each make the Blacksmith's Anvil, the Armorer's Workbench and the Chef's Stove.
• Tier 2 Workbench: upgrade it with copper, iron and Linen Scraps to make the Furniture, Salvager's, Alchemist's and Arcanist's Workbenches.
