Hytale Portals: Ancient Gateway, Fragment Keys & Recipes

• Collect 100 Memories. You collect Memories by meeting creatures, after you first interact with The Heart of Orbis in the Forgotten Temple, and you bring them back there to unlock rewards. You can carry up to 48 new Memories at a time.
• Build an Arcanist's Workbench at a Tier 2 Workbench: 10 Thorium Ingots, 30 Linen Scraps and 20 Essence of the Void.
• Craft the Ancient Gateway at the Arcanist's Workbench: 30 Cobblestone, 10 Thorium Ingots, 10 Essence of Life and 10 Essence of the Void.

• Hold a Fragment Key and interact with the gateway. Opening the portal uses up the key.
• An open portal vanishes after one and a half minutes if nobody enters it.
• Inside the fragment a timer starts. When it runs out, the gateway closes and you are sent back.

The three keys you can make in Exploration mode are crafted at the Arcanist's Workbench after 100 Memories:

• Fragment: Orbis - Windrider Valley: 10 Thorium Ingots and 30 Essence of Life.
• Fragment: Orbis - Dragonspire Weald: 10 Cobalt Ingots and 30 Essence of Ice.
• Fragment: Orbis - The Dread Wade: 10 Adamantite Ingots and 30 Essence of Fire.

Keys for two more fragments, the Silent Henges and Tal'Kesi Refuge, exist in the game but cannot be obtained in Exploration mode. Sources: Hytale Wiki: Fragment Key, Hytale Wiki: Fragment.

• Windrider Valley (6 minutes): a green oasis crater with a Feran town, surrounded by barren desert on a floating island with no caves or bedrock. There is a 50% chance of a Tier 3 Sandswept Mage Tower, and rarely two or three. Crocodiles and saber-toothed tigers are hostile.
• Dragonspire Weald (7 minutes): frozen forests where a Frost Dragon sleeps on a mountain peak. It cannot be woken or fought yet. Grizzly bears are hostile.
• The Dread Wade (7 minutes, then 3 minutes of Void Breach): a swamp island that drops into the void, with Hedera's Throne inside a giant hollow stump at its center. After 7 minutes a Void Breach starts: portals open near you and more and more void creatures appear until you die or time runs out. Crocodiles and marsh snakes are hostile.

Chapter 1 (Update 7, October 12, 2026) adds a fourth fragment you can reach in Exploration mode: The Guttering Hollows, held by Goblins, which Goblin Breaches lead to. According to the Hytale Wiki, it is a floating island. Its key is crafted at the Goblin Tinkerer's Workbench from 15 Scraps, 10 Essence of the Void and 5 Iron Ingots, and the time limit is 10 to 14 minutes. The longer it stays open, the more void creatures appear. The key recipe and time limit come from the wiki's pre-release pages. • Since Update 7 (October 12, 2026) you can type /portal instead of /fragment, and /portal leave replaces /leave.
• Portals can also limit how many times each player enters; the Ancient Gateway shows the limit. Update 7 also added 2 new portal worlds and a message when a portal world's time runs out.
• Update 5 added a server setting, GameplayConfig.Plugin.PortalOrigin.MaxConcurrentFragments, so server operators can raise or lower how many fragments can be open from one portal origin at once.

• Make sure you are holding a Fragment Key when you interact with the gateway.
• Since Update 4, the gateway refunds the key if the fragment fails to generate.
• Since Update 6, the gateway shows an error and refunds the key if the destination has no valid spawn point.
• Since Update 6, a fragment stays open when you walk away from the gateway, and the portal reconnects when you come back within range. The time left in a fragment can no longer go above the time it started with.
