What Changed in Update 7
Update 7, Chapter I: Out of the Breach, came out on October 12, 2026 and changed several of these materials. Sources: Chapter I: Out of the Breach and, for the drop changes, the Update 7 pre-release notes.
- Void creatures no longer appear in the Echo of Orbis at night (Official), so Voidheart and Essence of the Void now come from The Guttering Hollows behind a Goblin Breach.
- Void enemies drop Voidhearts less often, most void enemies drop more void essence, and larvae drop nothing (pre-release Part 5; the final notes do not repeat it).
- Pickaxe and hatchet durability rose: Crude 150 to 200, Copper 200 to 300, Iron 250 to 500, Cobalt and Thorium 325 to 700, Adamantite 400 to 1000 (Official).
- The new Scrap Drill breaks a 2x2 patch at once and can mine metal blocks for loot (Official). Copper pickaxes can mine Shiny Scrap Piles (pre-release Part 4).
Ores
Copper Ore
Where: most common underground in Zone 1 (Emerald Wilds), and below the surface in Zones 2 and 3; often exposed in cave walls; rarer deeper down, where iron takes over. A September 2026 video also shows it in rock pillars of the glacial areas of Zone 3.
Mining: any pickaxe, including the Crude Pickaxe.
Used for: copper tools.

Iron Ore
Where: deep underground in every zone, less common than copper, often next to Cracked Basalt and in mineshaft walls.
Where it is most common: the Hytale Wiki (September 2026) says The Fens; the older Fandom wiki (January 2026) says the Howling Sands.
Mining: any pickaxe.
Used for: iron tools and armor.

Gold Ore
Where: in calcite deposits and on the bottoms of lakes and rivers in the Emerald Wilds; on mountain surfaces and in caves of the Whisperfrost Frontiers; in large amounts beneath the floating ice of the Frozen Coasts. Also in Tier 3 chests (3% chance).
The older Fandom wiki (January 2026) says the Howling Sands underground instead.
Used for: smelted into Gold Ingots at a Furnace.

Silver Ore
Where: best on mountain surfaces, especially peaks, in the Whisperfrost Frontiers (Zone 3); smaller amounts in chalk and marble mountains of the Emerald Wilds and in the Cinder Wastes.
Mining: any pickaxe.

Thorium Ore
Where: abundant in the Howling Sands (Zone 2), and only near patches of Cracked Mud; scarce near mountain peaks and inside structures of the Whisperfrost Frontiers. Tier 1–3 chests in those regions can hold 1–5 Thorium Ore.
Used for: Thorium Ingots; a Thorium pickaxe can mine Adamantite (Official, Update 2).

Cobalt Ore
Where: mountains of the Whisperfrost Frontiers (Zone 3), as surface outcrops or underground, often next to Cracked Slate; also in the Cinder Wastes (Zone 4).
Used for: a Cobalt pickaxe can mine Adamantite (Official, Update 2).

Adamantite Ore
Where: the Cinder Wastes in Zone 4, as small surface veins, around lava pits and cooled magma, and in slate pillars on the coast; often next to Cracked Magma. Zone 4 chests can also hold it.
Mining: needs a Thorium or Cobalt pickaxe (Official, Update 2). An iron pickaxe is not enough.

Mithril Ore
Mithril does not generate in Exploration mode as of Update 6 and is only available in Creative mode, according to the Hytale Wiki and several videos. Official notes do not mention it. Mithril recipes exist in the game files.

Onyxium Ore
Two wikis list Onyxium as Creative-only; no official note or gameplay video confirms it yet.

Other Materials
Voidheart
Where: dropped by void creatures that appear at night. The Hytale Wiki lists Void Eye 15%, Void Spawn 15%, Void Spectre 5%, Void Crawler 1% and Void Larva 0.5%.
Which creature is the best farm: sources disagree (a January video points to the flying Void Eye; other reports point to Void Spawn).
Used for: upgrading the Armorer's Workbench to Tier 3 (3 Voidhearts). Backpack Upgrade II and the Mithril weapons also take one, but they need Storm Leather, which is not obtainable in Exploration Mode. The Voidheart guide covers every source and use.
Update 7: void creatures no longer appear in the Echo of Orbis at night, Voidhearts drop less often (pre-release), and Hunts beyond Goblin Breaches require a Voidheart (Official).

Essence of the Void
Where: always dropped by void creatures at night; deserts are a common farming spot in videos.
Used for: the Arcanist's Workbench needs 20 (wiki and video agree).
Update 7: most void enemies drop more void essence, larvae drop nothing (pre-release), and void creatures no longer appear in the Echo of Orbis at night (Official).

Essence of Life
Where: gained by harvesting mature crops; also found in chests, more often in Kweebec villages.
Used for: Farmer's Workbench seed bags, saplings and Eternal seeds.

Yellow Crystal Shards
Where: from breaking Yellow Crystal blocks. One early-2026 video places them in Zone 2 desert caves and on mushroom trees in Zone 4; no second source yet.
Used for: the Crystal Fertilizer Bag at the Alchemist's Workbench now needs 25 crystal shards instead of 50 (Official, Update 5).

Azure Kelp
Where: underwater in ponds of the Azure Forest (the blue area on the map); also in small oases in the Howling Sands.
Growing: Update 4 gave Azure Kelp its own growing requirements (Official).
Used for: the Teleporter (2 Azure Kelp, per the Hytale Wiki).

Light Leather
How to get: small animals drop Light Hide (the Hytale Wiki lists Antelope, Camel, Chicken, Deer, Goat, Pig, Rabbit, Rat, Sheep, Skrill and Turkey); a Tanning Rack turns Light Hide into Light Leather.
Since Update 2, Bison, Boar, Cow, Horse and Warthog drop Medium Hide instead of Light Hide (Official).
A January 2026 video, made before Update 2, says wolves drop Light Hide; the wiki list does not include wolves.
Used for: iron armor and Repair Kits.

Quartzite
Where: mossy boulders and pillars in The Fens (Zone 1); also in the Whisperfrost Frontiers and underground in Zone 4.
Mining: no pickaxe tier needed; it drops Quartzite Cobble.
Used for: building blocks at the Builder's Workbench.

Emerald
How to get: Earth Crystal Golems drop Emeralds (Update 4).

Zephyr
Zephyr is a gem. Sand Crystal Golems drop Zephyrs (Official, Update 4); the Hytale Wiki lists a 100% drop of 1.
Before Update 4, Zephyrs generated in crystal clusters in the mountains of the Howling Sands; newly generated chunks no longer have them, according to the Hytale Wiki. An older Creative-mode video places them elsewhere.
Used for: upgrading the Alchemist's Workbench to Tier 3, according to the Hytale Wiki.

Goldenwood
What it is: a wood type that includes Amber, Palm, Sallow and Wild Wisteria logs.
Where: Sallow trees in the yellow-leaved parts of Zone 4; since Update 5, Goldenwood is found more often throughout Zone 4, including some cities and villages (Official).

Darkwood
What it is: a wood type that currently comes from Cedar logs, found in snowy areas (trees with blue-tinted leaves).

Eternal Seeds
How to get: crafted at the Farmer's Workbench, not found in the wild. For wheat, the recipe uses Essence of Life, wheat and a Wheat Seed Bag; Eternal versions unlock one tier after the normal seed bag. Magic crops have no Eternal version.
Breaking fully grown Eternal crops gives their seeds back (Official, Update 2).
