Hytale Runes List: Every Ability & Modifier Runestone

Last updated: 2026-10-12

Runes arrived with Chapter 1 (Update 7) on October 12, 2026. Ability Runestones give you combat abilities, and Modifier Runestones change how those abilities behave. Every number below comes from the official Chapter I notes of October 12, 2026; where shards drop comes from the Hytale Wiki.

How Runes Work

  • The Runebinder's Lattice: you place runes in a Runebinder's Lattice, and one stands in the Forgotten Temple.
  • Slots: two Ability Runestones can be active at once, each with its own Modifier Runestones. The same ability can't be placed twice, and the same modifier can't go on one ability twice.
  • Two kinds: Ability Runestones add an ability with its own Mana cost and cooldown. Modifier Runestones change the ability they are attached to; the ability table below lists which modifiers fit each one.
  • Stacking modifiers: their changes to damage, Mana and cooldown multiply with each other.
  • Mana: every ability costs Mana. Mana shows where the Stamina bar used to be and refills on its own. Signature abilities also give Mana back when they land; each extra enemy caught in the same hit adds a little more, but less than the one before.
  • Casting: using an ability cuts your movement speed by 40% for a moment.

How to Get Runes

  • Craft them: runes are made at the Goblin Tinkerer's Workbench, in its Runestones tab. Each Ability Runestone costs 2 Runestone Shards and each Modifier Runestone costs 1.
  • Runestone Shards: the Revenant Guardian, the Goblin Feastmaster and Void Fiends drop 2 each, Goblin Burners drop 1 half the time, and a Shiny Scrap Pile sometimes gives 1, according to the Hytale Wiki. See Chapter 1 Bosses.
  • The workbench: the Goblin Tinkerer's Workbench stands in the Forgotten Temple and needs its Goblin Power Generator running. See Goblin Gadgets.

Chain Hook506 s3 BludgeoningRebound, Rend, Splinter, Thrift, Wither
Charged Shot354 s12 to 58 Water, more the longer you chargeRebound, Rend, Splinter, Thrift, Wither

What each ability does:

  • Ground Slam: you strike the ground and stone spikes burst up, which can throw enemies into the air.
  • Fireball: launches a fireball that explodes on impact.
  • Wind Strike: your next three attacks send out piercing arcs of wind.
  • Enrage: for 8 seconds your Physical, Elemental and Projectile damage goes up by 30%, and the damage you take goes up by 20%.
  • Imbue Poison: each hit adds a poison stack that deals 2 Poison damage per second for 6 seconds, up to 3 stacks at once. An Antidote removes this poison and gives brief immunity to it.
  • Chain Hook: a chain pulls every target near where it lands toward you and slows them for a moment.
  • Charged Shot: you charge a bolt of frost; the longer you hold it, the more it hits and slows. Charging slows you more at each stage, and at full charge it fires by itself.
